Yesterday, Facebook revealed their new feature Graph Search. All the social media watchers could breathe again as there has been much anticipation in the social media world. The financial world didn’t take too well to the news and Facebook’s share price promptly dropped a few percentage points on the announcement as they have been expecting an announcement on a Facebook mobile phone.
How does this bide for people in the Search Marketing world?
We welcome the entry of a giant player who can take some search market share off the mighty G. They have monopolised the space and has terrorised everyone who relies on Google’s search results to drive business to them.
Facebook’s Graph Search only shows results from within it’s environment. Search results are personal, based on information shared by your friends and previous searches.
What is exciting about this announcement is the introduction of paid ads in Facebook’s search results. This will be a big game changer and I expect will certainly be a competitor for online advertisers.
Facebook’s ads will be so much more attractive with the ability to fine tune ads to very specific demographics and geographic criterias. Am watching the development o this with great interest.
